Approved Examples of Permanent Cookie Disclosure Statements
Before a permanent cookie or other invasive tracking
program can be used on a University of Illinois web site, then, as is
required by the University’s Web Privacy Notice [https://www.vpaa.uillinois.edu/resources/web_privacy ], the following actions must be taken by the person(s) responsible for that University site:
- determine that the use of permanent cookies by the
person(s) responsible for that site adds value to the user otherwise not
available;
- determine that the permanent cookie is not used to
monitor and track web site viewing habits unless all types of
information collected by the person(s) responsible for that site and the
use of that information by the person(s) responsible for that site add
user value and are disclosed through a comprehensive online privacy
statement; and
- place on that web site an Approved Permanent Cookie
Disclosure Statement or link to such a statement including a link to the
University’s Web Privacy Notice.
The University interprets a permanent cookie as a cookie
that remains on the hard drive after the browser application has been
closed.
